The Clinch Mountain Music Fest is held every year to showcase music from the Clinch Mountain region – old time music mostly – how it was played long ago, who’s playing it now, and how the music is changing as new musicians play it. The festival raises funds through sponsorships and donations to cover the costs of the festival and provide scholarships for college students in the region who are studying heritage music. Student musicians can apply for these scholarships at their schools. Participating schools include the University of Virginia at Wise, the Mountain Empire Community College, and the East Tennessee State University. Every year more and more funds are collected to help these new heritage music students keep the local music alive. They couldn’t do it without the help of the festival’s sponsors and “Friends of the Fest.”
