Clinch Mountain MusicFest to be at the Carter Family Fold!
Jay Dixon was the chairman of the Southwest Virginia Community Foundation, an organization he founded in 2006 with his wife, Carol, to look for opportunities to promote economic and cultural development in Southwest Virginia. Jay was born in Nickelsville, Virginia, and spent most of his life traveling the world with the U.S. Army and as a consultant. Returning to Scott County in 2005, he became involved in the local music scene that included old time music, the kind of music he had learned as a child when he first picked up the guitar. So when asked to help raise funds for the Clinch Mountain Music Fest in 2007, he welcomed the opportunity to make it the Foundation’s first project. Jay served as the fundraiser, talent coordinator, and master of ceremonies for the past 5 years and last year worked with the Carter Fold to find a permanent home for the festival. Jay passed away on January 20, 2012. This year’s festival is dedicated to his love of the music and people of Southwest Virginia. Tickets are $15.00 for all-day admission and access. Entrance fees are donations to support music scholarships at regional colleges and universities.
